Top 5 – Bold Red Lip

Top 5: Bold Red Lip

If there’s one product I just can’t get enough of recently, it’s red lipstick. This year, I’ve been trying to be a bit braver with my makeup looks and painting my lips red has become my favourite way to do that! In my opinion, it’s a look that works for all seasons, all weathers, and 9 out of 10 social occasions. Elizabeth Taylor apparently loved her red lipsticks so much that she didn’t allow anyone else on set with her to wear them (so I’m in good company, as a lover of the red lip)!

As it’s something I’ve been doing a lot lately, I thought it was only natural to share my top 5 products for creating a bold, red lip. So, in no particular order . . .

1. L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Exclusive Reds – Blake

If I had to choose an all-time favourite, it would be this one. Blake would be the lipstick I’d take with me to desert island (you know, for when the hot sailors come to rescue me). I love everything about it – from the packaging, to the formula, to how it looks on my face. It’s bright, creamy, long-lasting and, of course, a gorgeous shade of red.  I could go on, and on, and on about it, but instead you might want to read my full review!

2. Makeup Revolution Amazing Matte Lipstick – Dare

I picked this one up in my huge Makeup Revolution haul as I’d heard loads of great things on Twitter about their lipsticks. For £1, it would’ve been rude not to! However, after swatching some of the other shades I’d bought on my hand, I really wasn’t that impressed, and I sort of forgot about them. I was half asleep one morning, and put ‘Dare’ on by accident – and I was really surprised! It’s a gorgeous, bright red with a slight pinkish tinge. The formula is light and matte, and can be built up to a more intense colour. For the price, it’s also got brilliant staying-power. It quickly became one of my favourite reds!

3. Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Lipstick – 111 Kiss of Life

I couldn’t really write this post without including one from my all-time favourite range of lipsticks – the Rimmel Kate Moss collection. Kiss of Life is from the matte range, with a pure, intense red that reminds me of London buses and telephone boxes. I think my favourite thing about this liptsick is the gorgeous cranberry flavour; I’m sniffing it as I write this post!

4. Maybelline Color Drama Lip Pencil – 520 Light It Up

I bought my first three Color Drama Lip Pencils aaages ago, and despite loving them I never really looked at the others in the range – until I saw this one! One look at the colour, and I knew I had to have it. All of their pencils are so easy to wear, with their creamy formulas and long-lasting matte finish; and this one is no exception. ‘Light It Up’ is definitely my favourite of all the Color Drama Pencils I have; it is just stunning. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably already seen the selfie of me wearing it (I just love how green it makes my eyes look!)

5. MaxFactor Colour Elixir Giant Pen Stick – Passionate Red

I was innocently swatching products in Boots, telling myself I wasn’t going to buy anything, when I happened upon this pencil. One swatch, and I knew it was mine. The formula is so creamy, the colour so pigmented, the finish so glossy, that I’m blown away by the fact they managed to get it in a pencil! This is probably the hardest to wear of the five, but it’s also got the most glamour and impact. ‘Passionate Red’ is the perfect name; I feel like Marylin Monroe when I wear it!
