I saw these cute little Keep Calm Lip Balms advertised before Made in Chelsea a few times, and then saw them on offer (2 for £5) in Boots – so I snapped up a pair.
I bought Keep Calm and Kiss, a bright pink shade, and Keep Calm and Shop, a pale pink/clear shade. At first, I really liked them; they were a good size, not too pricey, pretty packaging. It was all looking positive.
However, my first thoughts on using them were the colours were so pale. While this clearly isn’t a problem for Keep Calm and Shop, being a clear shade, I was expecting a little more pigmentation from Keep Calm and Kiss; considering the vivid shade of the balm. Here are some swatches (very thickly applied!) I think demonstrate my point:
They’re also just not that beneficial either. From what I can gather reading the complex ingredients list, they don’t contain any natural products or anything that shouts out ‘moisturizing’ to me; its just a long list of chemicals. It’s hardly surprising then that when I put them on, my lips didn’t feel nourished at all! They don’t have any sun protecting properties either, which leaves me wondering what the point of them is. All they do is add shine, and not much of it. If that’s what you want, you’d be better of sticking with lip gloss.
When you realise they don’t really do anything, £2.99 starts to look a little pricey.
I would have said that one point in their favour was the pretty but sturdy packaging, until this happened. . .
So really, the only positive is the lids clip on securely!
