I’m not usually a big on creamy eyeshadows, but I was just drawn to these adorable MaxFactor Excess Shimmer Eyeshadows and couldn’t help snapping up a couple!
They’re advertised as having ‘a high pigment formula with lasting power’ that creates ‘a decadent, luxe eye look that will take you from dusk till dawn’. They’re meant to last ‘up to 12 hours’ and come in a ‘range of rich shades’ of ‘creamy blendable colour’ with an ‘exquisite shimmer finish’. They are suitable for sensitive eyes and contact-lens wearers.
There are 6 shades in the range: Crystal, Pearl, Pink Opal, Copper, Bronze and Onyx. I currently have Crystal and Copper. Crystal is a white, frosty highlighting shade -a perfect snow-like shadow for winter! Copper is more of a taupe shade with a hint of sliver (with less of the orange tint of the Bronze). They’ve got that classic paint-pot-esque packaging that seems to be popular with eyeshadows at the moment – but I love it, they look fab!
These shadows have such an interesting, silky-smooth texture; sort of like a blend of cream and mousse. They are very soft, easily pick up on your fingers (I prefer to use my fingers with these, as its easier for me to apply them nicely) and effortless to blend. They work fantastically with each other as well; all the shades are complimentary in any combination. I don’t have particularly oily eyelids, so I found that these did last a good amount of time without creasing or fading.
The colours themselves are brilliantly pigmented, which I’ve often found is usually a bit of a problem for metallic shades. They have a beautiful, wearable shimmer to them that gives an almost wet-look finish. You can use a little for a sheer, subtle sparkle or build up for more impact – you definitely want to be building up the layers on these, as too much in one go could easily look cakey and overdone!
I’m really loving the Excess Shimmer shadows, they’re so glam and I’m obsessed their gorgeous shimmer. I’m so glad I got them, and definitely want more – Pearl and Pink Opal for sure!
Have you tried them out? What did you think – are you in love too? Let me know!
