I love perfumes; they’re definitely one of my top beauty products! Before a holiday, I spend hours trying them out in the perfume shops in Duty Free. I always end up sampling hundreds – and get onto the airplane in a cloud of fragrance (and probably give everyone else a headache)! A good perfume just finishes an outfit for me – I’m not fully dressed until I’m wearing some. And don’t even get me started on the gorgeous packaging . . .
In this post, I’m going to share five of my favourites with you – from high-street to designer. I have a bad ‘nose’ for a scent-obsessive though; I can’t smell something and say what it smells of, so I’ve given you the official line for what the smells actually are. They’re all gorgeous though, I can promise you that!
Body Shop – Indian Night Jasmine £16
‘Inspired by a moonlit night in a Mughal garden, this seductive, feminine eau de toilette from our Scents of the World fragrance collection is a blend of floral and oriental accords.’
This one’s back on my Christmas list again this year – I love the smell of jasmine flowers but this has got an extra little something.
Britney Spears – Fantasy £19.99
Top Note: Lush red lychee, golden quince and exotic kiwi.
Middle Note: Delicious cupcake accord, jasmine petals and sexy white chocolate orchid.
Base Note: Creamy musk, enchanted orris root and sensual woods
I think its safe to say we all went through an early-teen, Britney-fragrance stage! Even though I’m 18, I’m sort of still in that phase . . . they smell sweet enough to eat. This one’s got a strong fruity, flowery, musky sent – gorgeous as it is, it can be a little overpowering if you put too much on (a less is more situation).
Gilly Hicks – Darlinghurst £25
‘Mandarin blossom, Calochortus, Teakwood, Citric notes’
To my complete horror, while researching for this post I discovered that Gilly Hicks have discontinued their fragrances!! First they shut down all their UK stores, now this?!? The only place I can find still selling Darlinghurst is Amazon – for £60! The very last drops in the bottle are now gold-dust to me.
And if you were wondering, Calochortus is a pretty amazing flower – look it up!
Jack Wills – English Velvet £39.50
‘We were inspired by the rambling British countryside and summer holiday travels, but we never forget our roots. We make all our fragrances made in Devon for true authenticity. Florals, musk and warm amber capture the feminine essence of English Velvet.’
I got a smaller 10ml bottle, but the price here corresponds to the 50ml bottle available at Boots. I think its the warm amber I like in this (I think….).
Dior – J’adore £56.50 (currently £50.85 at Boots)
Top Notes: Damask Rose
Mid Notes: Tuscan Iris
Base Notes: White Musk
J’adore was my first ever designer fragrance, and although its no longer my absolute favorite, it still has a special place in my collection. It’s still probably the most sophisticated and grown-up perfume I own! And the bottle is just to die for.
So there are my BOTB perfumes! Have you tried any of them? What are your favourites? Let me know!
