I like my hair long. Stupidly long. The tips are currently at my waist (if I stoop, I can tuck them into the waistband of my leggings!) and I’m still growing it. Not only is it long, but I also bleach it. Anyone who knows anything about hair will know that is a recipe for unhealthy hair. I can proudly report, however, that my hairdresser says my hair is ‘actually in pretty good condition’. I think this is probably due to my fairly regular hair cuts, religious use of heat protectant, only washing it every 2-3 days etc. etc. but most of all, hair oil.
I remember a few years ago, when hair oils first became a thing, I was horrified. Why would I put OIL in my HAIR? I’m always trying to get that stuff OUT! Now, I don’t do my hair without them. They’re like all-in-one frizz serum, shine sprays and leave-in conditioners, as well as being nourishing and strengthening. In this post, I thought I’d share my top 3 hair oils that my hair just loves!
John Frieda Sheer Blonde Brightening Oil Elixir I remember buying this exact bottle after school in Boots when I was 14. I’m nearly 19. This one 100ml bottle has lasted me 5 years, and I still have at least 1/3 left. Okay, so I’ve only been using it regularly, i.e nearly everyday, for the past 2ish years. But still.
Not only does it last forever, but it’s my No. 1 hair oil. It’s quite a thin oil, so it’s pretty hard to accidentally apply too much – especially as it has the added bonus of a pump. My hair frizzes up a bit when I brush it, and this oil calms it down and smoothes it flawlessly. It adds shine and makes my hair look and feel fab. It even has heat protectant. You can’t ask for much more from a hair oil!
Renewing Argan Oil of Morocco Penetrating Oil When I first bought this oil, I found it far too thick and oily and it was quickly relegated to bottom-of-the-haircare-basket position. Recently though, it’s grown on me. I prefer to use this one on damp hair before I blow dry it as it really tackles my damaged ends. However, unlike the others, it doesn’t have a pump and it’s pretty thick, so you can apply too much (which I guess is what my problem was at first). This is definitely a less-is-so-much-more product!
OGX Nourishing Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum I would worship at the Shrine of Coconut Oil if there was one, so I can’t resist any beauty product that contains coconutty goodness. This oil contains coconut milk and oil, as well as egg white proteins, all of which are really beneficial ingredients for hair health. However, I do have trouble with this oil, as I feel like it sits on my hair rather than being absorbed, so it doesn’t feel so fab. I prefer to apply this one overnight to give it extra time to soak in – either a lot if I’m washing my hair in the morning, or a touch if its not a washing day. This ones errs on the side of treatment-oil as opposed to styling-oil.
